Frequently Asked Questions
What does an interior designer actually do? An interior designer helps plan and execute the look, function, and flow of a space from color and furniture selection to full renovations. At DeCristo Design, that also means handling the sourcing, vendor coordination, and installation, so you don’t have to manage those details yourself.
How much does working with an interior designer cost? Every project is different, and cost depends on scope. A single room refresh looks very different from a full home renovation. After an initial conversation about your space and goals, I put together a proposal with a clear cost estimate before any work begins, so there are no surprises.
What’s the difference between interior design and home staging? Staging prepares a home to sell since it’s about appealing to a broad range of buyers. Interior design is about creating a space that fits how you actually live. I focus on design and downsizing transitions rather than staging.
What is downsizing design, and how is it different from moving? Downsizing design is about more than logistics. I meet with you to figure out what you want to bring to your new home, create a plan for where everything goes.
What areas do you serve? I work with clients throughout Rhode Island from Cumberland to Westerly, as well as Southern Massachusetts and the Connecticut communities closest to RI.
What’s the process like working with DeCristo Design? It starts with a conversation about your space and goals. From there, I put together a proposal with a cost estimate, personally source furniture and materials, and coordinate every detail through installation day.
Do you only work with large budget projects? Good design is achievable at nearly every budget; it’s not just for the largest projects. I’ll always be upfront about what’s realistic for your goals and budget during our first conversation.
